Which cup is right for you?

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

Did you know we use 20 times more plastic than we did 50 years ago? Sadly 80% of this ends up in landfill as there are so many different types of plastic - not all are recyclable. Most Coffee Cups are made of paper but have a thin layer of plastic inside (To stop the liquid seeping into the paper) Because there are 2 different materials they must be separated if they are to be recycled. This has to be done with specialist equipment, So putting them in general waste or plastic recycling is not an option. There is now the offer of compostable (PLA) cups made from plant starch, and therefore

Bio-degradable but again these must go on your home compost site or into your food waste collection - If they are thrown into landfill and mixed in with other trash, it doesn’t matter if they’re compo-stable or not.

There are currently large investments being made in Britain to help our domestic plastic recycling sector cope with the variety of plastics in use and it won't be long before we operate a more efficient recycling system for all different types of plastic packaging. In the meantime, we can all do our bit to improve things now. We can educate ourselves to know where to put our waste to effectively protect the environment, as most plastics and disposable cups can be recycled via our household recycling collections or local recycling centres. You may have seen an increase in businesses moving to different types of plastic packaging, but knowing your bio-plastics from your biodegradable plastics can be very confusing. The strength of media coverage has hit home to galvanise a response and it is essential now, more than ever, for changes to be made and for us to decrease the amount of plastic we consume through the items we purchase and sell.

Here at Crown Water & Coffee are delighted to offer you a range of cup solutions which can meet any needs or demands of your business. From our reusable bottle which features an ingenious lid that automatically counts every time you close it after refilling. To our KEEPCUP - a simple and well-made cup is an all-round fantastic alternative to disposable coffee cups, and now Introducing our New renewable and compostable cups which are lined with a plant based Polylactic Acid (PLA). Moving away from the traditional plastic lining to ensure a lower carbon-footprint diverting waste from landfill avoiding the methane emissions by disintegrating into natural elements in a compost environment, leaving no toxicity in the soil. Have a look at our online shop today and be part of the change.
